Current Openings:
Past experience developing horizontally scalable web applications using open source platforms and scripting languages in Linux/Apache/CGI environments (PHP, PERL, Ruby, etc) is necessary. Expert knowledge of OOP, web application architecture, design patterns, web services, integration strategies, and application optimization is required as well as the ability to see the big and future pictures of how applications are implemented across the enterprise. The candidate must be able to work on several fronts at once and coordinate teams of developers to support the organizational mission.

- Code release cycle management
- Creating and implementing application architecture across the enterprise
- Application architecture (tiers, frameworks, scaling, design, integration)
- Hardware / application interaction and compatibility
- Oversee development and standards
- Setting third-party application integration strategy
- Proprietary and open source software integration
- Remote vendor services integration
- Evaluating development toolkits, frameworks and platforms
- Setting and enforcing coding standards, style
- Application code
- Database conventions, integrity
- GUI toolkits and conventions
- Q/A needs / documentation style
- Specify application infrastructure needs
- Work with systems engineer to tune applications and specify hardware needs

+ Member Services Administrative Assistant
We are looking for an entry-level Administrative and Clerical Assistant for our Member Services department. The position reports to the Senior Manager of Member Services. We are seeking an individual who is organized, detail-oriented, works well in a fast-paced environment and can manage multiple tasks.
Responsibilities will include:
Filing and organizing documents.
- Data entry into custom built database.
- Scanning documents; attaching electronic versions to database records.
- Logging and tracking incoming membership applications.
- Writing and sending standard correspondence to members.
- Other basic administrative duties.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree or one year of relevant work experience is required.- Must be well organized and detail-oriented.- Must be able to handle multiple projects at the same time.- Must have basic knowledge of MS Word and Excel. - Should be familiar with databases. - Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment is crucial.

Responsibilities will include:
- Handling incoming and outgoing phone calls and emails regarding membership, insurance eligibility, and other member benefits
- Having expert understanding of our eligibility rules, application processes, enrollment procedures, and details of all member benefits (including insurance products, discount offerings, and more)
- Reviewing and processing applications to determine insurance eligibility
- Tracking all communications and interaction with members in the membership database
- Resolving member issues and troubleshooting
Requirements:
- Must be a college graduate or have at least one year of relevant work experience
- Must have excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
- Must be detail-oriented, have a creative approach to problem solving, and able to multi-task
- Must enjoy interacting with people; patience and sensitivity are essential
- Should be proficient in the use of MS Office Suite and have some knowledge of databases
- Prior work experience in customer service is a plus

We are looking for a talented Political Director.
The Political Director will work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement a strategy for our state and national policy and advocacy agendas. He or she will oversee Freelancers Union activities in the areas of lobbying, policy, and member mobilization, and will have the unique and important opportunity to build our constituency of 75,000 members into a national political force. The Political Director must have the political/lobbying experience and savvy to develop a political strategy and lead the collaborative efforts of the advocacy team in executing multiple advocacy campaigns across several media, especially online, while recognizing the talents, independence, and experience of the members of the team. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the effort to identify target cities and states in which Freelancers Union’s membership is growing and where Freelancers Union can take on policy issues that matter to freelancers (such as taxes or income stabilization) - and win.
- Lead a similar effort at the national level
- Develop advocacy campaigns (local and national) from their inception to their successful conclusion (including making specific timelines, establishing achievable goals and making sure that the organization meets them)
- Work collaboratively with the Freelancers Union’s advocacy team to conceptualize, strategize, and carry out the organization’s advocacy campaigns
- Lead by bringing the team together to agree on strategy and implementation
- Work with policy experts to deepen the organization’s knowledge of the issues
- Solicit and/or partner with academic institutions and think tanks to conduct new research on relevant issues
- Identify new partner organizations and work with existing partners to advance Freelancers Union’s advocacy agenda
- Develop public education strategies as part of advocacy campaigns
- Collaborate with the Community Manager on the member mobilization component of advocacy campaigns
- Work with the Executive Director, advocacy team, and political consultants to develop Freelancers Union’s PAC strategy, and lead its implementation
- Identify the need for and coordinate the work of expert consultants
- Supervise staff at manager and coordinator levels
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience developing and carrying out policy campaigns to their successful conclusion
- Successful management experience
- Excellent social, written, and verbal communication skills
- A flexible, collaborative work style and an entrepreneurial spirit
- Policy expertise in issues of relevance to Freelancers Union members is desired
- The ability to maintain a pleasant, collegial attitude at all times
