New York freelancers need Senator Schumer to protect their health coverage

The current health care system is failing, and it hurts independent workers more than most.

For more than a decade, freelancers have successfully come together around a common purpose: affordable, portable health insurance. By pooling our resources and flexing some muscle, we got better plans with cheaper rates than individual freelancers could by going it alone. And we still do. We’ve also fought for health care reform, supporting a public plan and health insurance for not only independent workers, but all Americans.

Unfortunately, federal legislation, as drafted, will put freelancers’ options for affordable health insurance at risk by taking away our right to group together the way traditional employees do.

Call Senator Chuck Schumer today to protect freelancers' access to insurance. We've got his office number and talking points ready for you.

New York’s freelancers will get pushed into the individual market, where we’ll be forced to pay more money for less coverage. In fact, the Congressional Budget Office estimates you’ll be paying 10-13% more for your health coverage with health reform.

The President promised if you’re happy with it, “you can keep your health care plan.”  We’re working diligently to ensure Congressional leaders don’t unintentionally break this pledge and put freelancers’ group-rate coverage in jeopardy.  But they really need to hear from you.
